Being young does not protect against racial or gender discrimination. The YWCA of Western Massachusetts offers programs specifically for young people, to help them develop the self-reliance and life skills to overcome the obstacles before them. If there is a young person in your life who is ready to grow into their fullest potential — or if you are that young person — please contact the YWCA to learn more about these programs.

Workforce development services

The YWCA wants to help young people, ages 14 to 21, expand their employment opportunities. We start with educational and career assessments, and build skill sets that are marketable for low income, at-risk, and out-of-school youth. The YWCA can provide leads on internships, job opportunities, and job shadows.

YouthBuild

YouthBuild is a unique program that provides job training and education while assisting community development. Participants, who are aged 16 to 24 and out of school, build housing for low-income families while earning an educational credential and developing their own personal potential.

Nationwide, the program is composed almost completely of young men; the YWCA of Western Massachusetts was the first to develop co-ed work teams. YouthBuild leaders have recognized these co-ed teams as among the program's most organized and accomplished. No surprise to us.
