In 2009, 14 women in Massachusetts were killed in an intimate relationship. In one 24-hour period in 2009, 2,018 victims were served by domestic violence programs in the state. The numbers don’t lie: domestic violence is a deadly problem that’s not going away. That’s why we’re here for you, 24 hours a day, every day, with our domestic violence hotline numbers. So you can get the help you and your children need, when you need it most, to move from being victims to survivors.

  • Every 15 seconds, a woman is beaten in America.
  • More than 1 in 3 women (35.6%) in the United States have experiences rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
  • Nearly half of all women (48.4%) in the United States have experienced psychological aggression by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
  • Almost 50% of homeless women and their children fled their homes because of violence.
  • The YWCA is the state's largest provider of services to battered women.
  • 6 in 7 requests for shelter are denied because we are at capacity.
  • Teen pregnancy rate in the United States is 86 out of 1,000 women. That's the highest in the industrialized world.
  • 1 in 4 teen mothers completes high school.
  • 75% of unmarried teenage mothers end up on welfare within 5 years of the birth of their first child.
  • The suicide rate among teen mothers is 7 times higher than their peers' rate.
  • The YWCA has provided over 2000 women and children with nonresidential counseling and treatment services each year.
  • 200 teen moms and their babies receive shelter every year.
  • The YWCA provides emergency shelter to over 300 women and children each year.
  • We receive over 10,000 hotline calls each year.
