EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: Orlando Rosario

Unassuming and diligent, Orlando Rosario is an integral part of the YWCA. As Lead Custodian, Orlando’s responsibilities run the gamut. From ensuring the cleanliness of the agency to mowing the lawn, plowing snow, and general maintenance and upkeep—Orlando does it all.
Additionally, “I make sure everything is functional so everyone here at the YWCA can do their job effectively,” said Orlando, who has been with the YWCA for 18.5 years.
“Even though Orlando doesn’t work directly with clients, he makes a big impact behind the scenes,” said Pamela Irizarry Mendez, Sexual Assault Counselor. “The work he does every day truly makes a difference in everyone’s experience here.”
Looking for better opportunities, Orlando, his wife, and three children came to Massachusetts in 1998. Now, nearly 30 years later, Orlando gets to enjoy free time with his seven grandchildren and has his own trucking business.
Prior to working at the YWCA, Orlando worked at the Puerto Rican Cultural Center as a custodian.
“Like most people, I needed stable employment, but I also wanted a position where my work mattered,” he said. “I found that this role at the YWCA allowed me to contribute in a meaningful way by making sure the facility is clean, safe, and welcoming to all the individuals we serve here.”
“The YWCA supports the community in so many ways, and Orlando is a big part of that,” said Pamela. “When I welcome clients and show them around, they often mention how clean and nice the space feels. Being in a clean, welcoming environment can really help people feel calmer and more comfortable, especially during stressful times. Orlando creates that kind of space through the work he does every day.”
“Orlando is a great asset to the YWCA. We truly appreciate everything he does,” added Stephanie Serrano-Salva, Supervisor of Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Programs. “His dedication, professionalism, and positive attitude help keep our workplace clean, safe, and welcoming.”
As one of the first people to arrive every morning, Orlando is quick to greet everyone with a smile and takes the time to say good morning or hello. “Even if you’re new, he makes you feel welcomed right away, which says a lot about the kind of person he is,” added Pam.
“Every Monday when I go to my cubby and see my trash already taken out, it really means a lot,” said Pam. “It might seem like a small thing, but on busy days it takes a weight off my shoulders and shows how thoughtful he is. His dedication helps create a positive, welcoming environment for both staff and clients, and it’s something that deserves to be recognized.”
“I love working here at the YWCA,” said Orlando. “Over the years, I have met incredible people, and I have built lasting friendships. I feel very much appreciated by everyone here. I am grateful that I get to come to work every day, to this place that I love so much.”
